| The model year 1957 was Pontiac's 3rd production year using this longer and lower design. Longer, lower and faster were the buzzwords coming out of Detroit in that period. Everyone was manufacturing V-8's by now and the plating companies in Detroit were gearing up for the upcoming chrome war. Every model year, more and more power and chrome showered the showrooms across America. And this 1957 Pontiac Starchief is no exception. Cars like this made their way to racetracks around the country. What if the now, famous Cotton Owens, a racecar great and Semon E. Bunke Knudson, then General Manager of Pontiac Motor Division, had this example today? They would have burned up the Daytona Speedway in 1957.
