| It's hard to deny the contributions that the Chrysler Corporation made to the muscle car era. Even when things were winding down in 1971, they were cranking out amazing machinery like this matching numbers 1971 Dodge Demon, complete with Green Go paint, a cackling 340 cubic inch small block under the hood, and just 49,000 original miles. If you're going to own a car called the Demon, if it's going to have a rip-snorting small block that rumbles with 10.5:1 compression, and if it's going to have hood scoops that look like they could feed a pair of Rolls-Royce Merlins, well you may as well paint it Green Go, too, because there will be no sneaking around. Superbly finished, the paint has been applied to a straight body whose light weight made it a significant threat on the street. Gaps are amazingly good, considering the era in which it was built, and it's clear that someone lavished a lot of time and money on the restoration. A blacked-out hood and rear wing, combined with matching side stripes, gives it a very aggressive attitude and prevents it from burning your retinas too much when you see it on the street. Correct badges, the unique frenched taillights, and bright chrome bumpers have all been properly restored, too. Black buckets with center console are desirable options and a Mopar muscle trademark, and the high-backed seats and well-preserved console in this Demon look as right in here as they do in a Hemi 'Cuda. A Tuff Wheel feels great in your hands and makes the small block Demon feel nimble on the road, while a column-mounted Sun tachometer sits front and center just ahead of it. A dual pod instrument panel was derived from the 1968 Barracuda, and looks awesome in apparently original condition. A pair of auxiliary gauges hangs below the dash just ahead of the shifter, while the original R11 Music Master AM radio remains in the dash. All the soft parts were replaced during the restoration, including the seat covers, door panels, carpets, and headliner, and the result is an extremely nice interior that belies the Demon's economy car DNA. Since the original owner was splurging on options, he wisely chose the top engine, a 340 cubic inch 4-barrel small block that cranked out 275 horsepower, which moved the lightweight Demon well enough to make it a serious threat on the street. The original numbers-matching engine remains between the fender wells, surrounded with correctly date-coded components. The original heads have upgraded Crane valve components, while a Mopar Performance purple camshaft gives the small block a very wicked idle. A rebuilt 727 TorqueFlite automatic swaps the gears and spins an 8.75 inch rear with 3.55 gears. Power disc brakes, dual exhaust with correct chrome tips, and classic 14-inch Rallye wheels round out the chassis. When gas prices were skyrocketing in the early '70s, the Demon was the right choice.
