| DESCRIPTION |
| Go and try to find a clean, unmodified 5-speed Mustang 5.0 convertible, I'll wait. Nothing, right? These cars were the Shoebox Chevys of their generation, and the fact that you can practically build a new one from a catalog means that original, unmodified specimens are as rare as aluminum Shelby Cobras. Add in low purchase costs, a younger audience eager for cheap thrills, and, well, the survival rate of these cars isn't all that high. Which makes this 1990 Mustang GT convertible a remarkable find. No supercharger, no goofy backyard exhaust system, not even a set of shorty headers-wow! Then there's the completely rust-free body, which benefits from a recent paint job in the factory original two-tone blue and silver combination. The urethane ground effects were ground-breaking in the late-80s, and there was no mistaking Ford's ponycar on the road, with the round fog lamps up front and cheese grater taillights out back. The electric blue paint is vivid and bright. The ground effects are immaculate, without any warping, even along the sides where it's common. Heck, even the original trunk rack, which Ford designers tacked on to hide the CHMSL, remains in place and in exemplary condition. The Mustang GT's interior offers comfortable, supportive buckets and durable cloth faces, all beautifully preserved and in great condition with no rips or fading-remarkable for a ragtop. The leather-wrapped steering wheel remains in great shape, too, along with the matching dashboard. This car is loaded with just about every single option, including cruise control, power windows and locks, interval wipers, and A/C, which has been upgraded to R134a refrigerant. A Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo replaces the original Ford unit and sounds amazing. The top drops into its well with the touch of a button and the matching top boot is stowed in its storage bag in the trunk. Ford's venerable 5.0 liter V8 delivers 225 horsepower and a raucous 300 pounds of torque, spinning through a slick-shifting T5 5-speed manual transmission. In stock form, the car is a great performer, making wonderful sounds and delivering tire-smoking old-school muscle car thrills. The big aluminum intake is instantly recognizable, and none of the usual low-buck modifications have been done (they are usually a bad idea anyway). The intake coolant hoses are still hooked up, the factory air box is intact, and the EGR system is fully functional. Then there are details like the original tubular exhaust manifolds, original plug wires, and even OEM hoses and clamps that make this a true time capsule. Underneath, it's equally clean with no rust and all the original equipment intact, including the factory catalytic converters. The final touch is a set of very nice turbine alloy wheels wearing 225/60/15 performance radials. Today, as it was in 1990, the Mustang GT represents a HUGE bang for the buck. If you're looking for a clean convertible that hasn't been abused or modified, you just found the best. Call today! | |
