DESCRIPTION
If you’re looking for a real C3 “head turner”, this Corvette will do it. This is a removable “T” Top “numbers matching” 1972 coupe sporting beautiful authentic Corvette Chrome Wire Wheels and nice White Letter Goodyear Rubber. With quality fiberglass paint jobs costing anywhere between $8,000 to $10,000 these days, this Vette is a real bargain. According to Pro Team Corvette, they list the 1972 in their “Top 10 Picks”. This vehicle is being sold without a warranty and the seller has made a diligent effort to accurately describe this vehicle. What makes the 1972 so collectible is it’s “end of an era” status plus only 20,496 coupes were ever produced. This is the last Corvette to feature both front and rear chrome bumpers, side-fender grills, a hidden windshield wiper feature, a bright egg-crate grill and a removable rear window that was unique to the 1968 through 1972 models. Although Horsepower ratings were changed to reflect a net rating instead of gross output, the 1972’s were already designed to run on a lower octane unleaded fuel which makes them very drivable with today’s’ traditional pump gas fuel. Since so much ended with the ’72 model, it has emerged as another “Corvette Keeper” and it definitely gets the nostalgia vote. This Vette runs great on the middle grade unleaded gasoline with no knocking or adverse effects at all. According to the serial number, this Corvette was manufactured in April, 1972. I also have the original Chevrolet “Build Sheet” for this vehicle and all maintenance records dating back to 1987 plus the NAPA paint code. This Vette was ordered with the following options: a Standard 350 CID engine with 360 lb ft of torque, a GM 400 TurboHydromatic Transmission, 4-Season Air Conditioning, power disk brakes, power steering and a 3.08 Rear Axle Ratio. According to the previous owner, this Vette was a trophy winner showcar with its excellent Flamemist Red paint and nice chrome. For the true Corvette enthusiast, I have a picture of this Vette at the 1993 Bloomington Gold Tour in Illinois and a Bloomington Gold window sticker. The engine compartment and undercarriage has been detailed; and, all new axles and bearings, half shaft universals plus a completely new front suspension were completed in 2004. The brake calibers have been converted to stainless steel and it is running 100% pure silicone brake fluid. The cooling system was converted to state of the art GM Dex-Cool Antifreeze. The original tach drive distributor has been converted with a Pertronix electronic ignition kit, Taylor high performance plug wires and features a brand new Accel high output coil. The heater coil and lower hoses were replaced in 1999 and a new power steering pump and hose were installed a few years earlier. Although this was not a LT1, it has many original LT1 parts such as the genuine LT1 high rise aluminum intake manifold, LT1 aluminum valve covers and a LT1 hood. About the only thing missing is the LT1 high compression. The engine, I am told was completely rebuilt, bored .030 over and sports the 350 Horsepower High Performance hydraulic cam. It has a nice little lope and rumble to it without any low end performance problems. The previous owner has also installed new weather-stripping. The Air Conditioner is the original factory unit and it appears to work fine. It is still a R12 system and according to previous owner, he added a can of freon once every three or four years. A new windshield wiper motor, wiper blades, a wiper limit switch and a vacuum wiper switch have been installed recently. This wiper system still needs a little fine-tuning to get the timing correct between the vacuum wiper door and electric wipers.
