| DESCRIPTION |
| While Chevy designed the Monte Carlo as an upscale personal luxury machine, this 1972 coupe throws subtlety out the window with its brilliant red paint job and warmed-over small block V8. With ultra-clean lines and tan upholstery, it's a cool twist on a true classic. If you're going to paint it bright red, you have to prepare yourself for the attention you're going to attract. The Monte Carlo is already one of the best designs to come out of GM's studios in the early '70s, but putting red paint on it takes it to an entirely different level. First of all, it's big, and that's a lot of red, so it's doubly-critical that the bodywork be straight-and it is. It has also been subtly de-chromed, with shaved badges and rub strips, not so the car's identity is lost, but rather so that it emphasizes great features like those curving, sweeping fenders. Those extra-long doors have an excellent fit and seal up tightly. The tan vinyl roof is an unexpected treat, too, giving it a traditional look that you'd never see on a factory Monte Carlo. Too cool. Matching tan vinyl has been used inside, creating a bright, airy passenger compartment that is up to the Monte Carlo's luxury mission. The condition is so good, it has to be restored, with fresh carpets, new door panels, and snug-fitting seat covers that replicate the originals. Simulated burled walnut was used on the dash, and it's actually pretty convincing, and adds to the upscale polish that Chevy wanted for their big coupe. A/C, power brakes, power steering, and a powerful JVC AM/FM/cassette stereo make this a no-compromises cruiser that will happily carry you to work every day without excuses. Open the trunk and you'll discover a rust-free floor that's in exceptional condition, as well as a full-sized spare and jack assembly. There's no better place to go for horsepower than a small-block Chevy, and this Monte Carlo is equipped with a smooth-running 350 that moves it with real authority. The engine bay hasn't been dressed up for show, but it does show signs of regular care and maintenance, as well as fresh items like the A/C hoses and plug wires, as well as an open-element air cleaner atop a Holley carb and Edelbrock intake. There's also a fresh alternator, fresh hoses, and a set of long-tube headers feeding a rumbling dual exhaust system that's just right for the big coupe. The chassis is as clean as the trunk floor, and everything is serviceable and ready to cruise this summer with no worries, including the 3-speed automatic transmission, which shifts superbly. A set of classic Rally wheels wear a set of BFGoodrich blackwall radials which seem to emphasize the dual performance/luxury mission of this Monte Carlo. If you're looking for a Monte Carlo that brings some extras to the party, this is an excellent choice. Call today! | |
