DESCRIPTION
Just the facts here: numbers matching 1964 GTO, loaded with options including factory A/C, and nicely documented by PHS. All for a bargain price. Why haven't you picked up the phone yet? In all seriousness, this 1964 GTO hardtop is the real deal. This one has been refinished in Genadier Red, and the workmanship is excellent, just as you'd hope with a high-quality car like this. Of course, it was a full tear-down, with no trace of the original paint anywhere on the car, with every square inch prepped and painted to make it as OEM as possible. The original sheetmetal is laser straight, with nice gaps that are probably better than new, and a correct black vinyl roof was installed, just as the cowl tag specifies. Beautifully rechromed bumpers and bright stainless trim demonstrate show-quality workmanship, and the complex taillights have been expertly refinished to new condition. And while the GTO was still technically an option package on the Tempest, all the correct GTO badges have been faithfully restored and reinstalled. The GTO package included bucket seats as standard equipment, with those in this red hardtop being fully restored using fresh reproduction seat covers in the original pattern and material. A center console is a natural fit as well, complete with the slender shifter for the 2-speed PowerGlide underneath. The instruments are fully functional and fitted into four sporty-looking nacelles, and GTO fans will note that this is an original factory air car, with eyeball vents in the dash. An optional 4-spoke wood-rimmed steering wheel warms up the all-black interior, and it sits atop a tilt column, which is a fairly rare option in a GTO. Other neat upgrades include a rear defroster, remote mirror, and a power antenna on the rear deck. And speaking of the rear compartment, the trunk has been finished to show standards with a correct mat that fits superbly, and a full-sized spare with jack assembly. The only engine available in the 1964 GTO was Pontiac's punchy 389 cubic inch V8. This car features its original, numbers-matching engine and transmission, and is topped with the standard 4-barrel carburetor. Fully rebuilt, it starts quickly and easily, idles smoothly, and goes about its business with a minimum of fuss, thoroughly dispelling the rumors that these old high-performance engines were cranky or difficult to maintain on the street. It's also neatly detailed, with Pontiac Turquoise paint on the block, correct chrome valve covers and air cleaner (because Pontiac engineers knew guys would be showing this one off), and correct tower hose clamps. Power steering and power brakes make this a nice piece of luxury muscle and a pleasure to drive, especially with the 3.08 gears out back. The chassis is clean, but mostly original, and it wears stock steel wheels with spinner hubcaps and 215/70/14 Uniroyal radials. A bargain-priced, fully loaded GTO with a numbers-matching powertrain?
