DESCRIPTION
Now is the time to move on this amazing 1970 Oldsmobile 442. With matching numbers, factory A/C, and documentation such as the original build sheet, it's the kind of car that has been steadily gaining value over the past few years. If you missed your chance to get in on the ground floor with an LS6, a GTO Judge, or even a Buick GS, don't miss this opportunity to own an amazing GM A-body that will surely gain value as it earns trophies. As shocking as it may seem, this car was repainted almost 20 years ago, which speaks volumes about how carefully maintained it has been since then. The 442's fastback shape was unique among its corporate cousins at GM, giving it a forward look that was fast even standing still. Add in the rear deck lid wing, those powerful looking flared rear wheel arches, and a pair of hood scoops big enough to inhale slow-moving pigeons, and you have a muscle car that truly looks the part. Fortunately, it appears that someone took the time to make this one right, and there are no hasty repairs, no cobbled patch panels, and no sub-standard workmanship on this one. Instead, you have crisp body lines, excellent panel alignment, and a paint job that looks vivid and bright, with crisp black details like the hood and side stripes. The black bench seat interior appears to have been restored at the same time using correct patterns and templates as a guide, and it's still crisp and authentic, with few signs of use or wear. The bench seat makes this 442 feel spacious and roomy, with room for six in a pinch. Three round gauges sport stainless steel faces with slender needles, a theme that is repeated with the heat and A/C controls. The original AM radio remains, but you'll also find a rare U57 factory 8-track stereo system hanging below the dash in its own housing (it's on the build sheet). The original matching-numbers 455 cubic inch V8 still lives under the hood, cranking out a very potent 365 horsepower and a mind-boggling 500 pounds of torque, and reports at the time suggested that even these numbers were under-rated. The engine bay is nicely finished, sporting turquoise paint on the block (only the Rocket 350 got traditional Oldsmobile Gold paint), with that ram-air air cleaner taking up most of the picture. Maintenance includes recent belts and hoses, including, it appears, those for the A/C system, and new plugs and wires. A heavy-duty TH400 automatic transmission feeds a 3.23-geared 12-bolt, so the drivetrain is up to the task of managing all that torque. The chassis is clean and rust-free, and seems quite original throughout. Long-tube headers appear to be the only substantial deviation from stock, aside from those absolutely beautiful polished aluminum wheels wearing modern Yokohama radials. Get in on the ground floor with this beautiful 442; it's fast, fun, and one of the more solid places to park some money. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom.
