DESCRIPTION
1971 was the end of the line for traditional muscle cars, and the Monte Carlo SS454 is one of the rarest. Sporting its original LS5 big block, this beautiful Nevada Silver coupe is a great show and go car that still looks awesome and delivers a heavyweight punch under the hood. If a Chevelle is just a little too ordinary for you, perhaps this Monte Carlo is a better choice. As Chevy's big luxury cruiser, the Monte Carlo looks ideal in more subtle finishes like code 13B Nevada Silver, which is this car's original color. The bodywork was restored several years ago, and it still presents well with a great shine to the two-stage urethane paint. All the correct SS parts are there, too, including the blacked-out tail panel and proper SS badges that replaced the 'by Chevrolet' insignia on the trunk lid. Chrome is very good, the stainless has been well maintained, and the expertly installed black vinyl top uses the proper material. The black bucket seat interior is extremely clean, with a nice mixture of original and restored pieces. The seat covers and carpets are surely recent additions, and items like the door panels and headliner are in very good condition for their age. You'll also note that this car carries the optional factory tachometer, A/C, tilt column, and an AM/FM stereo radio, making it one of the more loaded SS454s you're likely to find. The burled walnut applique on the dash looks period perfect and actually does a pretty convincing impersonation of real wood, and the horseshoe shifter is perhaps the coolest selector ever. The original steering wheel has been replaced, but it still has a sporty look to it and an SS horn button in the center. The original, numbers matching LS5 big block still lives under the hood. Cranking out 365 horsepower, it's the ideal powerplant for Chevy's ultimate luxury muscle machine. With a smooth idle and big torque, it moves the big Monte Carlo effortlessly with a fantastic muscle car soundtrack from the Chevelle-spec dual exhaust. The engine bay has been nicely detailed for show, with all the proper finishes and colors used during the restoration. The original load leveling compressor is still mounted to the inner fender, the A/C has been set up for R134a refrigerant, and it wears a correct air cleaner with decals. The TH400 automatic is the correct type for the car, but is a replacement unit, fully rebuilt to stock specifications so it shifts like it should. Other equipment includes power disc brakes, a rugged 12-bolt rear, and gorgeous Rally wheels wearing 245/60/15 front and 275/60/15 rear BFGoodrich T/A radials. There just can't be many Monte Carlos nicer than this. Big power, big luxury and only 1919 were built in '71, making it extremely rare. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom.
