DESCRIPTION
With vintage trucks seeing a nice surge in popularity, it's great to see some of the less common machines getting some love. This 1960 Ford F100 was certainly not rare, but when was the last time you saw one, let alone one restored as nicely as this? If you're a Ford guy who wants to step outside the ordinary, this is a great opportunity. Finished in code F Sky Mist Blue, which is this truck's original color, it definitely looks like a product of the pastel 1950s. The front end was all-new in 1960, featuring a redesigned grille, larger headlight bezels, and a grille full of rectangular openings, all painted basic white as a cost-saving measure for the basic, working-class pickups. Bodywork is clean and well-executed, with crisp character lines and decent panel alignment. The bed sides were some of the largest automotive stampings in history, with a sharp curve wrapping around to the tailgate that was notoriously difficult to achieve. The bed and tailgate remain in excellent condition, and it doesn't look like this truck was forced to do hard labor during its working years. It also appears that this one was never rusty, so all the original components are intact, including front and rear bumpers, the arrow head emblems on the sides of the hood, and the chrome door handles. The interior features a wide cloth bench seat in a bright, airy cabin. Pickup trucks were basic back then, so the dash, door panels, and headliner are all steel painted to match the body, but the functionality is what makes vintage pickups popular. A rubber mat gives the interior the ability to be hosed out after a day in the field, and the instrument panel is simplicity itself. Only the white steering wheel with ornate horn ring dresses up the passenger compartment, and it remains in excellent shape. The three-on-the-tree transmission shifts easily, clutch action is light, and thanks to that big steering wheel, it's easy to maneuver. Power comes from a 223 cubic inch inline-six engine which was Ford's standard-bearer for many years. Economical, torquey, and smooth, it's a durable workhorse that makes up for its lack of brawn with a willingness to spin and makes a pleasant sound while doing it. The engine was professionally rebuilt when the truck was restored about 10 years ago, and runs beautifully today. The engine bay is clean and offers lots of space for easy maintenance, and the bright red engine block stands out in an ocean of satin black. The original 1-barrel carburetor and heavy duty oil-bath air cleaner remain in place, complete with an original style decal. Underneath, the chassis is solid and clean with no structural rust and synthetic lubricants in the transmission and rear end. For a little dress-up, this Ford wears a set of wide whitewalls and late-model Ford hubcaps. Is it a show truck that can go to work or a work truck that's good enough to show? It's up to you.
