| DESCRIPTION |
| This 1969 Impala convertible is proof that big can be beautiful. With the Camaros and Chevelles getting all the attention from muscle car fans, it's easy to forget that Chevy made some extremely handsome full-sized luxury cars as well, with the Impala remaining their top-of-the-line offering. And as you can see, with a few subtle modifications, the family-friendly Impala goes from ho-hum to ho-ly cow! All that sheetmetal probably needed ten gallons of the paint to end up looking this good. The Imp's crisp sheetmetal speaks for itself when wrapped in basic black, and the crease that runs from nose to tail is sharp and well-aligned. The finish is very good throughout, with good prep and an impressive shine that's practically mandatory on a black car-you can't cut corners there. The massive front bumper wraps around the grille and headlights, while out back the six individual taillights are an Impala trademark from the very beginning. It's also impressive that this car is what it is, no fake SS badges or over-hyped engine call-outs, just a clean, black ragtop with a ton of street presence. This car gets NOTICED. The Impala also allows you to take five of your buddies with you anywhere you go, and nobody will complain about accommodations. This is a truly massive car, but the interior totally makes the conspicuous consumption worth it. With comfortable benches fore and aft carrying newer seat covers, correct black carpets, and door panels trimmed in appropriate faux wood, the interior has no needs and is ready to help you hit the road. A later steering wheel wrapped in black leather looks surprisingly at home in the big '60s cruiser, and a Kenwood AM/FM/CD stereo has been fitted in the dash. A black canvas convertible top with glass rear window has been fitted, giving the Imp an upscale look. Under the hood is a powerful 350 cubic inch V8, which moves the big ragtop easily and with a great rumble from the dual Flowmasters underneath. Efforts were obviously made to keep the engine bay looking stock, and Chevy Orange paint combines with a black factory air cleaner and reproduction decals to keep it all GM. Power steering makes this full-sized car handle with just your fingertips, and the maintenance is up to date with recent hoses, fluids, plugs, and wires. The chassis is solid and rust-free, with a 3-speed automatic, a set of lowering springs and dropped spindles up front, as well as effective drum brakes at all four corners. And with a big car, you need big rolling stock to really stuff the wheel wells, and this one doesn't disappoint with 18-inch front and 20-inch rear Skop alloy wheels wearing staggered 235/40/18 front and 255/35/20 rear tires. Triple black never looked so good as it does on vintage GM convertibles, and this Impala has been tastefully upgraded to not only be a pleasure to drive, but to get tons of attention while doing it.
