| DESCRIPTION |
| 1965 was the year for Mustang and for America. War babies from every corner of this country were growing up now and graduating from colleges and universities. And many were off to the military for a stint but with their backpacks came pictures of their honeys and their favorite cars. Mr. Iaccoca was ready to turn Dearborn upside down. There was a plant down by the Rouge River that needed some production. That was the facility that Henry Ford, used for building some of his the first Fords. That plant was unique because it was able to refine raw materials and send them directly to the assembly line. Today we call it A self-contained factory. I remember being so excited about this new car that I traveled from Illinois to Michigan in the summer of 1965 just to see them build these beauties. When I walked inside that factory I never saw so many Mustangs in my life. They were everywhere. Some components came from the ceiling above, some up from the basement and others came from, both, the left and the right. And at the end all arrived with those beaming chrome bumpers, ready for shipment. One of those cars that I saw back then could have been this example that I am sharing with you today. This 2-door, notchback coupe comes with a Code T - Candy Apple Red color. It was one of the most popular colors on 1965 Mustangs. You will not go too far today without seeing a Candy Apple Red Mustang from those early years. One will never get tired looking at that color. This car is a beauty. A real nice customized example that you can take to any show or drive it right down the interstate. There is a brand new windshield for a clear vision. It has a tried and trued 302 ci V-8 engine that has less than 500 miles on the re-build. This engine has a .030 bore, a 10/10 crank, and a 600 CFM Holley carburetor with an Edelbrock intake. Firing this power plant is a Pertronic igniter, which replaces the points. The heads are stock but have new valves, pushrods, valve seals and guides. And attached to all of this is a pair of Hedman headers. The transmission is a newly built C-4 automatic and a new torque converter. Underneath all of this are new front coil springs, new shocks, front and rear and new bushings to hold it tight. And a new Flaming River rack and pinion for accurate and concise handling. A 1975 Ford Granada disc brake system on the front, and stock, but with new parts, inside those drums. And to hold the pressure is a new master cylinder. And look at those American Racing Wheels with those 205/55-16 front and rear tires on them. Let us not forget the interior. A completely new (Palomino color) with new white gages, lens and bezel and they are in front of a customized center console. If molding machines could have molded cavities this large back then I am sure Mr. Iaccoca would have designed something similar to this one. And in that glove box comes an owner's manual. This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom. For more information, please call (678) 279-1609 or toll free (877) 367-1835. | |
