DESCRIPTION
Talk about pedigree! This immaculately restored, 100 matching numbers big block Chevelle SS396 has been dressed in its original Tuxedo Black with a black interior, a 4-speed manual, and enough paperwork to cause a minor slowdown at the IRS. Yes, it's every bit as nice as you think it is, maybe even nicer. With a car like this, you just don't cut corners, so as a result, the bodywork is simply spectacular. Getting black to look this good can be horrendously expensive, even when you start with good base stock as they did with this Chevelle. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that this is a $15,000 paint job, and if it wasn't, it sure looks like it was. Panel alignment is exceptionally good, and no car ever pulled out of a Chevrolet dealership in 1967 looking this good. The paint is clear, with no distortions or irregularities, and hours of laborious hand sanding and buffing is the reason why. All the emblems, including the Super Sport badges on the quarter panels and the crossed flags advertising the big block under the hood, have been replaced with high-quality items that match the condition of the rest of the car. Bucket seats with a console weren't standard on the SS, but the original owner wisely stepped up and built this car right. According to the original window sticker, the Strato buckets were even more expensive than the 4-speed that lives between them. Finished with all-new components, including seat covers, carpets, door panels, headliner, and a fresh dash pad, it's no surprise that this car is already a prizewinner. Splurging on the big engine and a 4-speed, the original buyer took it easy on the options, adding tinted windows, an AM radio, the gorgeous center console, and precious little else, which means only one thing: someone bought this car as a weapon. Everything is ready to show at the highest levels, including the trunk which offers a correct mat and a full-sized spare with jack assembly. Power comes from the original, numbers-matching L35 396, which makes 325 horsepower thanks to a 4-barrel carburetor and standard dual exhaust. Although this was the base engine in the SS396, it was anything but tame, and rockets the big, black bruiser with real authority. The spectacular restoration extends under the hood, where there's Chevy Orange paint, chrome valve covers, and beautifully preserved exhaust manifolds. Power steering and power brakes were standard equipment, and make the potent SS as easy to drive as your mom's station wagon. The original Muncie M20 4-speed feeds a 12-bolt rear end, and the chassis is as clean as the rest of the car. And on a car this intimidating, the only wheel choice is a set of steelies with dog-dish hubcaps and reproduction redline tires. Documentation includes the original window sticker, manuals, and the original title among other things. Cars like this just don't come along very often, and this one couldn't be duplicated for twice the price. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom.
