DESCRIPTION
The list of cool features on this 1962 Chevy Bel Air just keeps going and going. Sure, you'll fall in love with the understated yet industrial-strength look, but under the skin you'll find all the upgrades and hardware that you'd want from a potent sleeper like this. How about a Gibbs-built 409, a Tremec 5-speed, and a deluxe interior that's anything but basic? Low-profile is definitely the way to go with cars like this Bel Air. While the convertibles got all the press, cars like this Almond Beige (yeah, that's the real name-perfect right?) were busy doing combat on the drag strips across the country. Unassuming, and that's just how guys liked it when they went looking for a race on Friday night. Of course you'll want a glittering paint job atop laser-straight sheetmetal, and this car delivers in a big way. It's rare for a car with such a reasonable price tag to be finished to this level, but someone invested a ton of time to get it right. Dig the crisp line sweeping down the sides of the body, the gaps around both doors, and the alignment of the trunk trim that shows how well the deck lid fits. That doesn't happen by accident and while the color may not be flashy, the details show that this is no garden-variety Chevy. The chrome has been restored, all the emblems are crisply rendered, and the stainless has more than a passing acquaintance with a buffing wheel. They probably weren't this nice when they were new. The top-of-the-line Bel Air interior is quite attractive in stock form, so they kept it mostly the way the factory did it. The biggest modification is a billet tilt column with a leather-wrapped wheel, but the installation is subtle and well-executed, so it really works well. The original gauges are still there, now augmented by a column-mounted tach and gauges under the dash, along with a neatly-installed A/C system that tries to stay out of sight. And while that shifter looks straight out of 1962, cue ball knob and all, it's tied to a 5-speed gearbox with overdrive and shifts like a bolt-action rifle. An AM/FM/CD/iPod stereo system has been stashed out of sight, and there's even cruise control for those long hauls. This is an original 409 car, so it's fitting that the engine is a Jack Gibbs-built 409. With 10:1 compression, a dual quad intake with Edelbrock carbs, aluminum heads, and a full roller valvetrain, it grunts out better than 500 horsepower on pump gas. It looks phenomenal sitting there in all that polished aluminum, and there's no question it was built to show off. The suspension has been lowered two inches, there's a disc brake at all four corners, and the Flowmaster exhaust barks with the authority that only a purebred can deliver. As a California car, the chassis is impeccable and quite original, so there's nothing to hide, and with a Hotchkiss suspension, it can use all that power. Classic Torque Thrusts finish the look and wear 235/70/15 blackwalls to great effect. Not so much a sleeper as a show car that's built to kick asphalt and take names. You couldn't duplicate it for the money, and it's a bargain at twice the price. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Dallas/Fort Worth showroom.
