DESCRIPTION
America's love affair with the Camaro started in 1967, and if this modified SS/RS is any indicator, it hasn't lost one BTU of its white-hot excitement. A tasteful blend of old and new, this is a Camaro you can drive every day, and still take it to shows on the weekend and compete. Not tuned to the point of being a ticking bomb, but instead a useable, powerful, gorgeous early F-body with a ton of smart modifications. The paint job on this Camaro is doing a pretty good impersonation of 1968 Corvette Bronze, but with a lot more metallic in it than the paint had back in the '60s. It's absolutely gorgeous and looks entirely appropriate on the 45-year-old sheet metal. Add in a set of black SS stripes that are buried under the clear, and you have an incredibly clean, sleek pony car that looks right at home with both restored originals and today's showroom fresh models. During the restoration, the car was also treated to a new cowl-induction hood, a new grille with hidden headlights, and a ton of new chrome, including the rear bumper, mirrors, and wheel trim. Open that new cowl-induction hood and you'll find a built 355 cubic inch small block that's the perfect fit in the Camaro's engine bay. But this one hasn't been dressed for concours; instead, it has been yanked into the 21st century with functional upgrades like that big twin-snorkel air intake, an MSD ignition system, and some aluminum Edelbrock Performer RPM heads. Compression is a pump-gas friendly 10:1, which, along with a relatively mild cam, make this car a pleasure to drive, and not just at wide-open throttle. Other details include a big Griffin radiator with a custom chrome fan shroud, fabricated aluminum valve covers, and exhaust headers. And you've undoubtedly already noticed that the firewall and inner fenders have been painted to match the body, which really sets off all the bright pieces on the engine. Everything on the chassis is new, from the B and M TH400 transmission, to the suspension and brakes, to the power steering system. Out back, there's a 10-bolt housing 3.42 gears and an Eaton locker, hanging on a pair of twin leaf springs with traction bars. Subframe connectors help strengthen the body tub, and you can really feel how much more substantial this car feels on the road than some of its peers. A dual exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers gives this F-body a wonderful baritone voice that perfectly matches its appearance-not too aggressive, but with an edge. Chrome alloy wheels with low-profile rubber give this Camaro an up-to-date appearance without going too far. The Camaro came two years after the Mustang, and one of the places GM spent a lot of time during those two years is the interior, which is still one of the best-looking muscle car interiors of all time. Restored to mostly stock condition, it is, like the exterior, nicely polished with a few modern twists, including the Procar black leather buckets that are vastly more supportive than the originals. All the other soft parts have been restored or replaced, including the rear seat, door panels, carpets, and headliner. The original gauges function properly, and a trio of auxiliary gauges has been added to the console ahead of the B and M shifter. Careful observers will notice the legendary factory Tic-Toc tachometer in the dash of this Camaro. A powerful Panasonic stereo system with Sony speakers provides the entertainment just in case the hot small block isn't enough. With only 4000 miles since being completely refinished, this Camaro needs nothing beyond an enthusiastic new owner to have a lot of fun this summer. Reliable, fast, and fun, it's the ideal hobby car, all wrapped in a shape that remains timeless and instantly recognizable. Not many hobby cars can deliver this much fun for so little cash. This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom. For more information, please call (678) 279-1609 or toll free (877) 367-1835.
