DESCRIPTION
Stunning is the only way to accurately describe this immaculate 1966 Corvette Roadster. This car is simply one of the nicest Mid-Year Corvettes we've ever had the privilege of selling here at Streetside Classics--it's a truly special automobile with just the right amount of customization without deviating too far from stock. Honestly, if we were to build a 1966 Corvette from scratch this car is about what we'd end up with. We think it's that perfect. For starters, the engine in the car is the venerable L79 327CI/350HP and it is numbers-matching so that's a huge plus for any Corvette. And to make things even better, this car has only seen about 7,500 miles since being frame-off restored and they did an amazing job (odometer was set to zero during the full resto). The fiberglass body is perfect and is in #1 condition. When it came time for paint, the builder went with a color he liked versus keeping things original. It was a bold move but we think he made the right decision. Just look at the pictures and it's hard to argue otherwise. There are plenty original-color Corvettes running around in the world to satisfy the demand but this car is truly unique because it's NOT a factory offered color. I mean, when was the last time you saw a 1966 Corvette finished in 3 beautiful stages of Laser Red Metallic? You have now! The paint job on this car is a 10 out of 10, wow is all we can say! For you purists, the original trim tag tells us this car was Silver Pearl (Code 986AA) over Silver Vinyl (Code 426) when it was new. We'll take Laser Red and black leather over Silver/Silver any day of the week, thank you. Mechanically this car has some subtle upgrades that not only boost the performance but also make it more enjoyable to use day in and day out. The #'s matching L79 327CI has been fully rebuilt to modern specs and is now designed to run off no-lead high octane fuel. An MSD 6AL electronic ignition has been added along with an MSD billet distributor with a mechanical drive for the tachometer. The four-speed is original to the car and features a Hurst Competition Plus Shifter. The rear end is also original to the car and is 3.73 Posi unit. For improved handling, a Vette Brakes Grand Touring Suspension kit was added minus the the rear spring. A Vintage Air AC system was implemented but they ordered the kit with a stock style A-6 compressor to keep things looking original under hood. Great pains were also taken to locate an original 1966 master cylinder/power booster as the 66 Corvette's utilize a special type compared to other Mid-Years. To us, it's little things like that that make this car so great and show the builder really cared. For him, being OK was never good enough---everything had to be, and is, perfect on this car. Other unique upgrades include an aftermarket cruise control system who's controls have been covertly hidden away beneath the ash tray door. The cruise works great and is wonderful on long highway trips. For some tunes, an AM/FM/CD player with 10 disc changer has been added and is operated though the stock location. For theft security (and a small insurance break) a Viper Stage 3 hard-wired system was utilized and works fantastically. If used properly, you can walk away from this beauty with the top down and have piece of mind that even an unwanted reach into the interior will be noticed by this state-of-the-art system (see video for demonstration). As you probably guessed by now, everything on this car works right down to the rebuilt factory clock and the power antenna. Factory options on the car include power steering, power brakes, and this is even a factory side-pipe car. The interior has been completely redone and is correct 1966 black leather. Again, the builder looked high and low but finally located an original 1966 teak wood steering wheel because nothing else was good enough. He probably couldn't have slept at night without a date-correct steering wheel--seriously. Other notables in the interior are head rests (you actually could get them in 66 not just 67) and also factory style shoulder harnesses which are extremely rare but could be ordered in 66. The car also comes with a body-color factory hard-top in addition to the white soft top. In closing, this is one super-slick 1966 Corvette and we think the small things put this one over the top. Why cruise around in a new C6 Vette convertible when you could be driving this car around in nearly the same comfort? Comparing the new and the old Corvette, which car do you think will get more looks going down the highway? Couple that with the fact that a classic won't depreciate like a new Corvette and your choice is easy here. This Corvette has won Best of Show at several car shows and is a no-compromises vehicle for the astute collector. We look forward to hearing from you soon. This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom. For more information, please call (678) 279-1609 or toll free (877) 367-1835.
