DESCRIPTION
This brilliant Bolero Red Chevelle is a real code 138 SS 4-speed sport coupe, and packs a date-code correct 396 that was installed less than 1000 miles ago. Outfitted in L34 specs, this is a potent A-body with a ton of style that's available for less than the restoration cost. Code R Bolero Red is the perfect color for a Chevelle, and combined with the big block under the hood, it's pretty clear that the original owner had no intention of sneaking around. Restored to a very high standard, this SS hardtop is simply dazzling in person, with super-straight bodywork that emphasizes the Chevelle's long rear quarters and unique C-pillar treatment. Gaps are excellent all around, and the paint is worlds better than even the best finish available in 1967, with a shine so deep you can almost swim in it. All the correct SS details are there, too, including the blacked-out tail panel, fluted taillights, and the trick hood with simulated vents that were a Chevy trademark for years. Fresh chrome bumpers were installed, all the stainless was polished to match, and new badges and emblems were installed in the original locations. The code 763-B black bucket seats were restored to original condition as well, with fresh foam and seat covers that replicate the original patterns exactly. The slick center console houses a Hurst shifter for the Muncie M21 underneath, as well as the optional clock. All the original gauges are intact and fully functional, augmented by a small, cleverly-mounted tachometer off to the side where it's useful, but not a dominant part of the décor. New black carpets, reproduction door panels, and a taut headliner give it a showroom fresh look inside. The only other deviation from stock is an AM/FM/cassette stereo head unit and speakers. In the trunk, you'll find a reproduction mat and a matching full-sized spare tire assembly with jack. The car was restored a few years ago, but just recently the 1968-vintage engine was yanked and replaced with a date-code-correct L34 396 with 4-bolt mains. Although the factory rated the L34 at 350 horsepower, the upgrades inside this one suggest that it's making quite a bit more than that today. There's a forged crank, domed pistons, and ported heads, along with an Edelbrock intake topped by a 750 CFM Street Demon carburetor. It fires up with a snarl, and idles in a way that lets you know there's a big camshaft working inside. Externally, however, it looks stock, with Chevy Orange paint on the block, chrome factory valve covers, and proper decals on the open-element air cleaner. The Muncie M21 4-speed was rebuilt and spins a 12-bolt with 3.73s and a Posi. The chassis is totally rust-free and features a huge dual exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers that sounds awesome. Classic chrome Rally wheels wear fat 225/70/14 BFG radials. You couldn't duplicate this car for the asking price, and it's a fast, reliable, highly detailed SS that will win fans wherever it goes.
