Description:

The best customs are those that have a unifying vision, a theme that drives the build from start to finish. You can always recognize cars like that, because they look like this 1956 Chevy Bel Air, with an integrated, high-quality look that is more than the sum of its parts. You'd be forgiven for thinking this is a fresh build, because the car looks awfully good, even up close. But there are actually more than 40,000 shakedown miles on the clock, and that means it's reliable and fun to drive, as well as great looking. It's also obvious that someone loved this car, because every inch is virtually spotless and maintained with a builder's skill and an artist's attention to detail. The black and white theme dominates, giving it a very 1950s look that's very OEM, but the subtle modifications take it to a new level. The original trim is all there, including the awesome stainless sweep spears that define the two-tone paint job, as well as the cool rocket-inspired hood and fender ornaments. The paint remains in excellent condition, with a great shine and very few signs of use, and on a black car, that's no easy feat. There's a little bit of pearl in the white, but only enough to make you look twice, again proving that subtlety is a customizer's best tool. The stylish monochromatic theme continues inside where a handsome black cloth interior has been stitched up and fitted over the original seats. Gorgeous door panels with gray fabric inserts and just enough chrome to brighten everything up were added, and new black carpets fitted. The original dash offers plenty of additional brightwork, along with rebuilt gauges in the instrument panel. A B and M Quicksilver shifter manages the TH350 transmission, and just ahead are a set of auxiliary gauges, with a big Mallory tach up top. The entertainment system is by Blaupunkt, and that banjo-style wheel with black leather rim atop an Ididit steering column is like a work of art all on its own. The trunk is still largely original, with a rubber mat and a full-sized whitewall spare that looks like it was left over from the car's previous life. Horsepower and reliability are both on top with the 330 horsepower Vortec crate 350. With a 4-barrel carburetor and a no-nonsense OEM look under the hood, you can tell this one was built to drive. It starts quickly, idles perfectly, and runs down the road like a new car, all of which was perfected over the past few cruising seasons. Power steering and brakes, plus A/C make it as easy to drive as your modern car, but there's nothing in a new car showroom that sounds like the rumbling dual exhaust on this Bel Air. The chassis is clean, with newer shocks all around and timeless baby moon hubcaps on chrome wheels. Fully sorted and a joy to drive, this '56 Bel Air is the kind of car everyone secretly wishes they owned. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom.
