DESCRIPTION
This numbers-matching 1968 GTO convertible received a comprehensive restoration, along with a few smart upgrades along the way, and with a 400 and a 4-speed, it's still the big cat in the jungle. The Vedoro Green finish is the original color, and the tan interior is the perfect complement. Complete with PHS documentation, this is a high-quality GTO available at a very reasonable price. The all-new '68 GTO proved once again that Pontiac knew what younger buyers wanted in a performance car. More than just raw power, the new GTO was stylish, comfortable, and ideally suited to the late'60s. The restoration on this car must have cost at least twice the asking price, and there weren't any Vedoro Green GTOs that looked this good in Pontiac showrooms in 1968. The Endura bumper was game-changing, and it is in excellent condition with no cracks or damage to the paint from flexing, suggesting that proper flex additives were used during the paint process. The hidden headlamps were so popular that most people don't even realize they were optional, and there's just nothing cooler than that hood-mounted tach. Chrome is uniformly excellent, and all the stainless has been polished and reinstalled. Upgraded with cloth inserts stitched in the original patterns, it looks highly authentic while being much less sweaty than vinyl when cruising with the top down on sunny days. Pontiac's dashboard layout was the best in the industry, and it appears that all the gauges are original. A custom-fabricated center console almost looks OEM, especially the way it encircles the Hurst T-handle shifter for the 4-speed underneath. Overhead, there's a new power convertible top, but it's not cheap vinyl, but Mercedes-grade canvas for a truly upscale look that fits the GTO perfectly. Power comes from the original 400 HO, which is rated at 460 horsepower and a whopping 445 pounds of torque. Rebuilt and detailed when the car was refinished about 5000 miles ago. Chrome valve covers were standard on the GTO, and the ram air setup is fully functional. Upgrades include a March billet serpentine pulley setup and a massive aluminum radiator for reliability, but everything else remains as the factory intended. Power steering and brakes make it easy to drive, and a stock style dual exhaust system keeps it appropriately quiet when you're not hammering the throttle. The chassis is extremely clean with no damage or replaced panels, and it drives beautifully. Pontiac Rally II wheels wear modern BFGoodrich radials. This car also includes a full PHS documentation package detailing all its original options and specifications, as well as literature like the owner's manual, warranty booklet, and top manual. GTOs work best on the road, and this one has been built to drive. Call us today for all the details on this amazing machine! This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom.
