| DESCRIPTION |
| The first-generation Camaro was recently selected as the most important Chevrolet of all time, and looking at this cool '68 SS ragtop makes it easy to see why. Sure, Ford invented the pony car, but Chevy perfected it, giving the Camaro an ideal blend of practicality and performance. Today they make great canvases for cool resto-mods that capture the original good looks and deliver modern performance. The bright red finish on this car is not for the faint of heart. Combined with black SS stripes and a ducktail spoiler, this car is a pure extrovert. Fortunately, since everyone is going to be looking at you, the work was nicely done and even after a few seasons of cruising, it still looks awesome. Good gaps, flat panels, and that deep, lustrous two-stage urethane paint all combine to make this a car everyone will notice no matter where you go. And while there's no way to be certain it's a real SS, it does wear all the correct jewelry, from the blacked-out front grille, to the SS badges on the flanks. Bright chrome bumpers really pop against the red paint, and all the stainless trim has been polished. Black Strato buckets remain in good condition, and were replaced when the car was restored. The reproduction seat covers show almost no wear and certainly no damage, with the back seat looking completely untouched since it was finished. The center console houses a correct 4-speed shifter for the Muncie underneath, and fresh woodgrain appliques. With crisp markings and bright brushed stainless backgrounds, it's a certainty that the gauges have been restored, including the quartet of auxiliary gauges down low ahead of the shifter. Entertainment is limited to the original AM radio in the dash, but any time you push the button and drop the black vinyl convertible top, you'll forget all about music for your drive. The engine is a sweet-running 350 cubic inch V8 with all the usual goodies, including an Edelbrock carburetor, a high-rise intake manifold, and a bunch of chrome dress-up parts from Holley. This car also includes power steering and power disc brakes that make it easy to maneuver in town or out on the highway, and long-tube headers add a fat bottom-end to the torque curve. A Mallory high-performance ignition system lights the fires, while brand new Magnaflow mufflers give it an incredible voice. And while you're under there, note how clean the floors are, with what appears to be original paint still clinging to the surface. There's no structural rust, no signs of accident damage, and all the correct convertible braces are still in place. A great rake that gives the car a mean disposition, and the finishing touch is a set of chrome Rev wheels wearing 215/35/18 front and 235/40/18 rear performance radials. Shop around for convertible Camaros, and you'll probably find that their position as Chevrolet's best also makes them some of Chevrolet's most expensive. This one is a pleasant exception. Call today!
