DESCRIPTION
This is a real 1964 LeMans GTO (the GTO was just a trim package, remember), with a matching-numbers 389 and a number of cool options. We won't go into the whole GTO story, but Goat fans will certainly dig this handsome 2-door and everything that it represents. Finished in lovely Nocturne Blue, this is the car everyone thinks of when you imagine the first muscle car. Clean, uncluttered styling and a big, honkin' V8 under the hood make the first GTO a favorite with collectors as well as with people who like to have a good time behind the wheel. Bodywork is excellent, with super-straight panels and good gaps throughout. As a totally new concept in performance, the GTO was an experiment, but that doesn't mean it wasn't fully developed. Cool hood inserts give it a suitably racy look, GTO 6.5 litre badges on the flanks evoke its European inspiration, and three simple letters on the deck lid let everyone know what had just humiliated them in the stop light grand prix. Chrome and trim is excellent, with a light patina that fits the car's personality just right. And all of it is legit and completely authentic. The handsome and fully restored blue bucket seat interior was Pontiac at the top of its game. This one offers a power driver's seat, which is a rare option, as well as a center console and wood-rimmed steering wheel, all part of John DeLorean's push to make Pontiac the European alternative. New door panels and carpets were installed when the car was restored several years ago, and the back seat looks like it's never carried a passenger. There's also an original AM radio in the dash, and that lovely chrome shift lever for the standard 2-speed automatic underneath. The overall effect is stylish, upscale, and definitely sporty - everything they hoped the GTO would be and more. The trunk is also neatly finished with rust-free floors and a reproduction mat, as well as a full-sized spare and correct jack assembly. Pontiac's GTO engine of choice was the 389. Topped by a 4-barrel carburetor, it makes a potent 325 horsepower and was dressed for success by the guys at Pontiac who knew that their clients would spend as much time showing off with the hood open as out on the streets. That meant bright Pontiac Turquoise on the engine, along with a lot of chrome, including the valve covers and air cleaner. Proper reproduction hoses and clamps were used throughout, and power steering and brakes make it a real pleasure to drive. The condition of the inner fenders and firewall suggest that this car has never been in a snowy climate, and the completely original undercarriage shows clean floors and no signs of structural rust anywhere. 14-inch steel wheels wear spinner hubcaps as original as well as 215/75/14 whitewall radials. For some Pontiac fans, the first is the only one to own. Beautifully finished, incredibly solid, and fast, this GTO will not disappoint. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom.
